I put this in my 96 last night, works great. Very smooth shifting now when cold, used to be hard until warmed up.

 

The redline dealer, (actually a SCCA racing shop), told me a Subaru story.

He had a customer who was having manual tranny issues, took to dealership, they said needed a new tranny and would be $1500 dollars. So first try the put in some Mobil 1 GL5 fluid, this made the shifting even worse. So a racer at her work told her about Redline. So she put in some 75W90NS first to see if that would help. That was 50,000 miles ago and tranny is still working fine.

I was $32 dollars for 4 quarts inc. tax.

Somewhere around $7.50ish per quart.

Yea, I've been praising Red Line for years. It allowed the stock t-5 in my mustang take 400hp beatings for over 2 years. Finally started leaking out the tailshaft.

I think it was on redline's website in the testimonials some subie racer talks about the stock trans problems and how his with redline is still running strong while everyone else is on their 3rd or 4th one.

Adding 50% Redline Lightweight Shockproof makes the synchros work even faster. Just don't try to drain it cold.

I try to stay out of the trans fluid discussions/arguments, but I also use 75/90NS and I love it. Has always treated my Subi trannies well, particularly on those cold winter mornings.

Are we talking about tranny fluid or gear fluid? I know my front and rear gear use that kind of fluid but never knew the tranny can, too, without risking internal damage. If it helps that much, I might as well switch!

In manual trans the front gear and tranny share the same fluid. In an auto they are seperate.

My OB is 100% Redlined! 75W90NS in trans (man), D4 ATF in p/s, 75W90 in rear diff. No cold weather problems any when hot just so smooth.

both of my imprezas are on Redline HeavyDuty Shockproof, front/rear.

 

those of you in colder climates should probably stick to the 75W/90

Subaru Manual Trans and front diff share fluid.

So if you have a manual tranny you can use Redline 75W90NS is gear oil.

You would use ShockProof™ Gear Oil for the rear axle or if auto tranny.

You would not use gear oil in your auto tranny. ATF in your tranny, shockproff in front and rear diff.
