I want to replace my rear shocks, but am worried about not being able to re- compress the spring which will pop out when I remove the shock. Has anyone done this? Do I need special tools, or am I worried for nothing?

You need a spring compressor to remove the shock. Your better off getting a new set of coilover shocks. Or find another set in the JY.
