VALUE of a 5 SPEED TRANNY???

Featured Replies

buying from a scrapeyard, the guy wants $120...does anyone have an idea as the "value" of a 5 speed tranny with about 120,000mi on it for my N/A, '86, 4 wheel dr.wagen...also, is there a way to tell if the tranny is any good (for example, no grinding of the gears, if the syncros are OK) without having to take it for a drive, which can not be done

That sounds like a decent price for what they are going for around here. You can look at the fluid in it to get an idea of its condition.

I paid $325 for a 5 speed dual range tranny with 2 front axles and the matching rear and interior stuff from the yard to switch mine over. Not great but not too bad.

Local Pull a Part prices here are $85 for any transmission. You have 30 days to try it out and bring it back for refund or replacement with the receipt. Hard to beat that deal except for the work involved.

I'm a tightwad, I say $50 but most yards will laugh at you if you offer that. Hondasucks and I traded a 12 pack of beer to a yard for one though :drunk:

125 around here depends also on milage , if you can find them , make sure you get the shift linkage, console

Just seeking to learn here...but why is it also important to get the shift linkage, since my wagen already has the two shifters in it...Thanks......
