So I was wondering what kinds of differences there were in axles. What is the spline count on them?

4EAT 4wd/2wd- turbo/nonturbo

3EAT 4wd/2wd- turbo/nonturbo

5-speed 2wd - turbo/nonturbo

D/R 5-speed 4wd- turbo/nonturbo

PB 5-speed 4wd- turbo/nonturbo

FT4WD D/R (RX) - turbo

FT4WD S/R - turbo/nonturbo

 

I can't think of any other tranny/motor combos but if I forgot one, lemme know and possibly the years these trannies were offeres and which cars...might helps some other people out as well:D

as far as i know the 5spd manual S/R ea82's (at least loyales - 90 to 94) were 23 spline, while the turbs were 25 spline. hope this helps.

4EAT and all turbo 5speed 4wd- 25 spline

3AT(turbo and non) and all NA 5 Speed 4WD - 23

all turbo 5spds are 25. all non turbo 5spds are 23

 

all 3at's are 23 spline. the turbo axle has the fat 23 spline doj that will fit on xt6 axles

 

all full time turbo or not, and 4spd at are 25 spline

Let's make things more simple

 

On the CV end of the axle shaft there are the indentifications marks. The marks are about 1/4" wide and are a bit larger in diameter then the shaft. Note, reman and aftermarket axles may not have these.

 

If the axle has 1 ID mark then it's a 2WD Non-Turbo, 3-AT or 5-Speed. 23 Spline.

 

If the axle has 2 ID marks then it's 4WD Non-Turbo, 3-AT or 5-Speed or 2WD Turbo 3-AT. 23 Spline

 

If it has 3 Marks then it's 4WD Turbo 5-Speed or 4EAT, 2WD Turbo 4EAT or 4WD non-Turbo 4EAT. 25 Spline

As fas as I know,

5 spd D/R- 3 marks and 25 spline,

because i got some Cv's and they are 23 spline, and i'm out of CV's,....
