93 Turbo wagon

Featured Replies

How desireable are the 93 turbo legacy wagons. I know they only come in auto, but I heard the tranny is fairly strong. I saw an ad for on AWD one in OK condition, said "runs good" who really knows. They wanted 1k for it, but i figure I could talk about a hundred off that. it has 130k mi. on it. Is it worth it?

They are ok. I have driven a few, I am not a big Auto fan so I am biased.

Kind of disappointing compared to the 5spd sedan.

I'd want to know some repair history on it, IMO. I'm not sure on the lifespan of a properly maintained turbo, but it might be something to consider. "Runs good" sometimes means "Runs good right now but the mechanic said it would only last a few thousand miles". (Damn, that's a rather dark outlook...) Anyway, just my word of warning. I would consider asking to have a mech look at it, just to be sure.

Hmmm. plans are simmering. i may take the engine out of my legacy instead of my neighbors, which needs helicoiling, and put it in my Loyale. Then put the manual tranny from my legacy into the turbo, and ditch my legacy for the turbo one. Or, depending on the body, I may switch the engine from the turbo car to mine. First i have to dispose of the GL i've been stripping and get the title for my legacy. Then parrental permission is needed. Maybe i should concentrate on what I have and let this opppertunity slip by. Then again, I could put the turbo engine in my Loyale. Now there would be a sleeper! So many choices. how many horse is the turbo 2.2 btw?

Automatic transmission or not, that car is great! I drive a '92 Legacy Turbo Touring Wagon LE, just about to turn 200K. The engine is practically indestructible, the suspension is beefy but handles exceptionally well, and man, does it love the highway! :D

At $1,000, it's a steal if it's in any kind of decent condition.

Heh, I have almost the same car ('92 Legacy Wagon L 5sp AWD) that also loves the highway. Funny thing is I named the car Emily (Long story, but I knew the original owner as well as the one owner in between me and him). Got the car as a "derilict" as the clutch was going out as well as "something expensive under the car" which made it too expensive for the in-between owner to fix as she does not do her own work. I had not a lot of particluar interest in this car until I started working on it, and then fell in love with the whole line. The EJ22T engine is wonderful to work on. Orders of magnitude easier than anything else I have laid a wrench to, and as has already been said, all but bullet-proof. Add to that the fact that it is easier to drive than any other manual trans I have ever owned (with 140K on the odo, it drives better than a lot of new cars) and is faster to boot. . .
