2wd to 4wd parts interchange?

Featured Replies

I need to know if the front drive axles, cv joints and all that kind of stuff can interchange between 2wd and 4wd. I have an 81 s/r 4wd DL wagon and I need cv's and other misc. parts. Will cv's (specifically) interchange? I'm considering buying a similar vintage (probably83 or 84) wagon parts car to pull stuff from.

I need to know...my right front joint is making losts of noise.

Thanks,

Jason

The axle assemblies as a whole can be interchanged. Now the joints on a 2wd axle are smaller then the joints for a 4wd axle, so keep that in mind.

Now if you are wanting to take the CVJ (inter joint) from the 2wd axle and put it onto the shaft of the 4wd axle, that can be done but you will need to use the joint boot for a 2wd. The same goes for the DOJ (outer joint)

I don't do any serious off roading so it should be okay (right?) If I can talk them down enough I may have parts to sell. I know its got some 8 spoke alloys on it. I've got Jackman's on mine so I won't need them.

I'll be posting if I get it.

Thanks again,

Jason

If you are just going to be driving around town, you should not have any problem.

The 4WD's have different struts - bigger springs, and the originals are adjustable. My replacements from KYB aren't tho.
