if i go to 14" pugs will the spare fit under the hood? as i remember the 185/70/13 was pretty tight on my earlier wagons...and if it wont fit, then what?

thanx!

I carry my spare in the back of my Brat. You might think about a roof rack.

This is a problem for any tire larger than 185/70/13 (and this includes some 13" sizes).

I had toyed around with desingning something for the tailgate until it was pointed out that the excess weight and visibility would be a problem.

The roof is the obvious place, and some sort of customized rack would be ideal. Mounting it above the front bumper would be another possibility, but again you'll need to fabricate something - probably attaching it to the bumper.

good luck, John

I run 15" pugs and have a full sized spare under the hood.

If you can't get the spare in there (I deflate and reinflate) there is a provision for the SW to mount a spare tire on the floor of the rear deck. There is a slot cut into the carpet to hold down the spare with the same device that holds the tire to the cross arm under the hood. See your owner's manual. I recall it being on the right side. If your not sure lift up the rear deck carpet and look for the screw down. When I carry two spares I throw the extra one back there. Its nice since its held down and doesn't come flying into my seat when I 4X4.
