Genuine Oil Filter?

Featured Replies

I love my 85 GL-1O and I want to show it. As far as the oil goes I used castrol syntec, but I hear amsoil might be best bet. As far as grade, I just don't know, 10w-40 seems to be the best idea but with 125K I wouldn't mind having it a bit thicker. It would be great to get some opinions. I always hear the genuine subaru oil filters are the best. Last time I put on a k&n. This next time I want to go all the way! When searching for the filters I found four:

White - American?- crap $5

Blue - NPN- $5.97

Black - Bosch - $3.84

Gray - Denso - $8.66

By first look I would use a bosch, but does anyone have info on the npn or denso?

I use Castrol High Milage (5w) oil in my EA-81. I've tried a synthetic once (Royal Purple), but I lost some compression and also started leaking oil once the deposits washed away. Shortly after switching back to 100% petroleum based oil, I had a piston burn and rings seize up. After the repairs were made, I strictly use the High Milage oil.... I like it....

If your engine leaks oil at all, dont use synthetic. you are just paying more to dump it on the ground. For a filter go with a purlator pureOne filter

part #24457 best filter on the planet

good filter but has restrictive filter element. could be a good thing or bad i don't know...I use WIX becuase its a better built filter and is about 3 bucks cheaper than the PureOne at my local auto parts store.

best filter wold have to be Mobil 1....from numerous things i have seen and heard about...but they are not cheap. Whatever you do stay away from FRAM or any company that has filters built by FRAM...if you ever get a chance to look at the internals you will know what im talking abou.

yup fram does suck. Fram = parts to be used on Honda's

LMAO

hondas are great cars.....but my friend does use Fram on his honda :banghead: even aonther friend of mine uses Fram filters on his Lexus... :banghead: I try and tell them but nnnooooo

Go with a Subaru filter. They can be purchased for $60 per case of 12, which is comparable if not better than most high-quality filters.

But which one is the subaru filter? The blue, gray, white, or black bosch?

I'm not sure I understand your question. I'm referring to the filters you can get at the Subaru dealer, that are white and say "Subaru" on the side in blue letters.
