January 31, 200521 yr ok i tried to search before i posted this, and couldnt find any post with engine type listing, or maybe i just suck at searching lol. im trying to figure out what motors i have i have a 85 and an 87 gl wagon both with the 1.8l n/a motor are they both the ea82 motor i have seen mentioned here before? or another type?
January 31, 200521 yr itis fairly simple to locate the engine number on the engine.on your 85 , go look right next to the distributor to the left a bit and you will see that it says ea-81 or ea-82.i bet that one is an ea-81.your 87 is more than likely an ea-82.the main difference in these engines is the timing belt setup on the ea-82.there are other differences, but that is the most noticeable.
January 31, 200521 yr I think your 85 is an EA81 and the 87 should be an EA82, but don't quote me on it.
January 31, 200521 yr All 1985 wagons, sedans, and other cars except Brat and Hatchback use the EA82 engine. I have a 1985 wagon and it is an EA82.
January 31, 200521 yr Author ill have to check the # when i get them towed to my house this evening im hopeing the motors are the same model since im dropping the 87 motor in the 85. just curious is the # difference meaning ohv or ohc motor?
