hollowing exhaust

Recommended Posts

i wondering what you guys do to hollow out the front cat, i dont have a welder available to me to do it or i would just do that cutting apart and rewelding it back together. so what are you guys suggestions? im gonna be using the exhaust off my parts car to do this so i dont have to take my soob off the road while im doing it. im planning on removeing the center cat and replaceing the the stock muffler with a crappy 2inch turbo 2 muffler. i already have the muffler just waiting to put it on till i get the rest of the exhaust done. so do you guys hollow it out or is there something else you know to replace it with?

take your "Y" pipe off car, take good sized urethane mallet or hammer will work, betatthe bejesus out of the thing, there are two sections of catalyst in the "Y" pipe, bang up, down, back, front, side, side and shake the crud out the ends, i did this will good success, but there will be some left over metal mesh wire and some other pieces of metal in there, im going to cut my cat open and remove it, it rattles when engine goes from a higher rpm than idle back down to idle, no beuno. it may take some time, i had to drill a hole for the 02 sensor in my "Y" pipe so i had a hole to stab the stuff with a screwdriver. good luck.

im not really worried about the car being louder, you can run straightpipes with minimal interior noise if you make sure you run it all the way to the edge of the bumper. and since i live in bfe most ppl around here dont even have an exhaust that runs much past the y pipe. so mine will actually be quieter than most lol. not too sure about the beating the hell outta it way though since ballitch was saying that he still has stuff rattling around in it. maybe i could cut the pipe just after the cat and have a good spot to put a coupling on ill check out my parts car exhaust to see if i can do that. if i cant find a way to do this i guess i may have to keep that 1 intact
