Knock sensor options....

Featured Replies

It seems it is impossible to get a new or second hand replacement for an ea81t knock sensor in New Zealand, so i have come up with these options:

  1. Buy one from the US for US$150 + p&p.
  2. Buy a new/second hand 85-86 ea82t knock sensor and hook it up to my ea81t knock control unit, and see what happens.
  3. Buy 85-86 ea82t knock sensor and knock control unit second hand and install the whole lot.
  4. Run without a knock sensor (i don't like this option too much).
  5. Burn the car to the ground (i like this even less).

Anyone have any opinions on any of these ideas, or any other ones?

Thanks.

Do you want me to do some ringing arround over here in Australia, atleast the postage would be less?

That would be much appreciated!

I can't imagine that the 85-86 EA82T knock sensor is too terribly different.

You could always take this opportunity to upgrade to a Saab APC setup:D

Thats what im thinking, but then why would subaru have bothered putting a different control unit in? S'pose it is subaru though!!

The saab APC probably isn't a bad idea if i'm going to have to spend US$150 anyway!

The first shop i rang didnot have one but the lady asked one of the tech. and he said the ea82t sensor was different. At city subaru ph: 07 3633 6666 (you need aussie country code aswell) they said they had the knock sensor in stock for $136.45 but there 'subaru teck' was off today but was he pretty sure it was the right part. the no. is 22060aa070. Yeh he said ring back on Monday to be sure its the right part as the teck will be back then. The bloke also said they can still get this stuff from japan so he didnot know what was up with the new zealand dealerships.

Thanks for that, naru is also finding a price, so ill wait and see how that compares.

As for the NZ dealerships, i have been trying to work out whats up with them for a long time, and have come up with nothing except that they obviously suck!:-\

According to 1stsubaru that is not the correct one.

https://www.1stsubaruparts.com/part_number.html

They do however list the correct one(429487000)for about $150.

I thought ea-81ts weren`t sold in Australia,so it seems strange that a dealer would have one in stock.

Well I only spoke to two people and neither of them umed or ared when i asked of the ea81t. So i guess you learn something everyday.
