i have no money. but my buddy from work and i want to make my soob a little more powerful.

What can i play with as far as timing goes and other stuff that's very very cheap, or free in order to get more off the line power out of my ej22?

In reality....there's really nothing you can do that won't adversely affect how the car runs.

Remove the snorkel in the fender if you haven't. That's super cheap (free), and should make the car feel a little more peppy.

nothing with the timing or anything?

the snorkel is in the passenger fender area, goes in to fender form engine bay and back into engine bay, piece of crap, disconnect it and try to take it out, or leave it in there, get a cone filter and make or buy yourself a maf adapter and voila, instant high end airflow. dotn screw with the timing, it is timed for a reason, its not carbed.

Where can i get an adapter or whatever i need for the cone filter. I have a broken vacuum connection on my resonator should i try and find a fix or buy a new one or will a cone filter and adapter impact that section of the air intake

Drive downhill, that's free.

Timing is taken care of by the ECU on later models.
