Flashing Check Engine Light 90 Loyale

Recommended Posts

My Loyale has alot of problems. The newest is that the check engine light is flashing like its a turnl signal. I am not sure what this is all about. Previously my Power Light would flash about 17 Times upon turing the key to the on position. Which it still does this and i have yet to solve. I am mostly curious about this flashing engine light. Thanks

Here's a link to the ECU codes page.

It sounds like you might have both of the connectors connected.

They'll be under the hood, green and white single pole connectors right by the fuel filter.

If they're not connected, try to read the codes and report back.

edit: LMAO... can't believe I forgot to post the link... Thank you skip for covering my back

You are correct as the link says.

The SPFI cars have black or dark colored "Read memory" connectors.

I always found them under the hood though by the drivers side hood hinge

To retrieve stored codes the "Read Memory" connectors should be used.

The "test" connectors are white ( same place, under the hood by the driver's side hood hinge) on later models

Plugged together for setting the timing and other "tests"

I think they used contrasting colors so they are not corn-fused,

but I may very well be mistaken in this regard.

Glad you got the codes read,

wish you well with the fix.

Sorry mate all info to date says you have the wrong connectors.

The Read memory connectors are white ( under the hood by the driver's side hood hinge)

others fuel systems have them by the ECU and are green.

Now I'm corn-fused. I have an 88 dl which is the same as the Loyale AFAIK. I had my check engine light flashing and it was because the test connectors were plugged together. So what? well, the car is fuel injected and the connectors are definitely GREEN. They were in the engine compartment on the drivers side near the hood.

J

your car has the SPFI fuel system

they did put green "test" connectors under the

hood in the early models his is a later model

they should not be left plugged togther

see my edit above

they must be plugged together to check the timing

then unpluged

IIRC, the greens should only be connected when doing the timing, or when trying to clear the codes from the ECU.

while doing timing, having them connected keeps the computer from changing the timing on you.

while clearing codes, the light should blink if there are no more codes.

for normal running operation, neither the green or white plugs should be connected.

At the bottom of the ECU check page is another link to the way to clear the codes. It says to connect both sets, do some stuff, the disconnect both when done.
