March 11, 200521 yr I am talking about my holley180 that came with no fuel return fitted. I took it to a holley shop and they said it should be ok without one. It has been good but this was with the stock filter with the fuel return up the top of the filter with the old line that used to goto the carb just kinked off. I am about to fit an inline filter and cap the fuel return line on the firewall. Will this damage my fuel pump or carb at idle? Or should i stick with the stock configuration?
March 11, 200521 yr Bob, First, the fuel return was engineered for a purpose. This being so the fuel pump is not "dead headed". This condition exists when a pump tries to push against a closed system. This condition will exist in your fuel system when at idle. I have read where some people get away with it, but for how long has not been reported. If the float needle seat or valve is not up to the task carb dumping can result, it may not be enough "passed gas" to cause problems but why take chances. The engineers at Subaru may not always score tries- but most times they do put the ball up for points on a free kick. BTW The filter you speak of with the return out of the top is a "vapor separator" The true fuel return line is connected close to the carby fuel inlet. The Weber DG series I have have a return built into the fuel input port. You can use a "T" with a restrictor placed in the return leg.
March 11, 200521 yr Author Skip do you know if the one piece fuel inlet and return fitting for the hitachi carbi uses the same thread as holley's or would i have to get it rethreaded?
March 12, 200521 yr Sorry Bob the only Carby I am friendly with is the Weber my quess - given Holley was designed for the US market is -- no A "T" fitting with a restricter of sorts would be an EZ way to solve the riddle Email me if you want and I'll show you a couple ways I have done this. neper at alltel dot com
