March 28, 200521 yr My Door Ajar Light stays on because I think that door got hit at one point. Does anyone know how they are triggered so I can just shut that one permanently. Thanks
March 28, 200521 yr well im not posative on how to get to it but i think that you would just have to get to the switch on the pillar and disconnect the wire from it but i could be wrong?
March 28, 200521 yr Yeah that is about right. There is a little rubber covered switch on the door jam, that when the door closes it closes the switch. Just unscrew that switch and disconnect the wire attached to the back of it.

March 28, 200521 yr glad to know i was actually right lol, on my 85 its right toward the bottom on the pillar itself not looking at at the moment but i think its like 4 or 5 inches up from the bottom of the door(sorry its pouring here otherwise i would run out and check)

March 28, 200521 yr OK, lets start with the passenger front. Open the door and look in the lower rear corner of the body. There should be a plunger style switch that activates the interior lights and the door ajar sensor. It should have a rubber cover over it. These covers break and come off over time. Check for the presence of the switch and whether or not the cover is there as well. The switch pops into place but has keepers that have to be accessed from the interior side. You have to remove the B-pillar interior trim to get to it. Let us know what you find.

The switch on this one was held in place by a Philips head screw. No keepers on the Inside, thankfully. Anywaus the reason it was not engaging is becasue the portion of the door meant to depress it is rusted out. I threw a bracket over it for now, later I will patch the door.
