Hp and Tq ratings for EJ22

Featured Replies

Does anyone know or have a link to what the Hp and Tq ratings are for the EJ22 over the years? I know the EJ22 has stayed pretty much the same but does anyone know what the exact changes are?

1990: 130HP / 137 ft-lbs. torque.

1995: 135HP / 140 ft-lbs. torque.

1997: 135HP / 145 ft-lbs. torque.

1999: 142HP / 149 ft-lbs. torque

Edmunds.com has the specs for each year listed. Those where the years and the changes.

Is there any info on the EPA milage for those engines? I'm wondering if the change in '97 to an interferance engine was worth it, and what could have induced the Subaru engineers to do it. . .

1996: Manual: 22 mpg / 29 mpg Automatic: 23 mpg / 32 mpg

1999: Manual: 22 mpg / 29 mpg Automatic: : 22 mpg / 29 mpg

(1997 wasn't listed on Edmunds.com...so I went with the 1999)

Those are for Legacy sedans.

AFAIK, there have been four different versions of the Legacy:

90-94

95-98

99-04

05-present

And each gets worse gas mileage than the one previous.

According to the specs on Automotive.com, the EPA highway gas mileage is as follows:

95: 7.6 L/100km

96: 8.1

97: 7.8 (a 4% improvement)

98: 7.8

99: 8.1

1996: Manual: 22 mpg / 29 mpg Automatic: 23 mpg / 32 mpg

1999: Manual: 22 mpg / 29 mpg Automatic: : 22 mpg / 29 mpg

This must be mistaken. I highly doubt the auto get better mileage than the manual.

I wish. My 92 legacy gets about 9 L/100 km on the highway at best. And it seems to be in fine running shape.

The Automatic will shift when you hit a certain RPM range and not let you steadly drive at 4500 RPMS.

It makes sence...I dunno. It might be a mistake.

But the people driving those cars to do these tests drive like grandmas on their way to church, so it shouldn't be a problem. Odd though.

The EPA tests in controlled conditions with the A/C off and the ambient air temperature between 68-86 degrees F. plus the car has no weight, and there is no elevation change in the test. If you just happen  to encounter any difference in your daily drive your mileage will be diffrent, usually worse.
