EA81 headlight conversions, dual->single round

Featured Replies

so im posting this for boosted84wagon and myself...

anyway dan has a 84 wagon with quad lights, this morning we came across a single round front end off a (86?) hatch...even though getting all the bezels and peices, by looking at the rad support we noticed there seem to be extra brackets tacked on to it for this setup..

.so has anyone else done this conversion? will it work with the fabbing of some brackets on the stock dual lights rad support?

if your going from 2 sqaure to one round. i have a NOS grill for the single round if you need it let me know ive been trying to find someone who can use it....

thanks..but we allready have all the peice's... dan might be interested in it as a back-up though..just in case he lets Lindi drive his car again:lol: ....

Back in the day, a customer at the shop I worked at wanted to go from dual to quad; we ended up having our body guy swap core supports.

just in case he lets Lindi drive his car again:lol: ....

Trust me, she's not driving the turbo wagon anymore!

Now why would you want to go from 4 to 2?? From my understanding (well of EA82's anyway) the 4 light design is more desired for lighting reasons.

both dan and I agree that single rounds look better...plus light out will be better as im sure he will buy some H-4 conversion rounds

You can get H4 conversion for the quad too

ya but the single still looks better;)

i concur as well, the single round head lights look more in proportion to the car and give it much more character.

i asked mikeW about doing this on my quad lighted wagon and that i was concerned about the switch because i didn't know how to wield nor did i have very much money to put into changing head lights that already worked. in response he said, "why let that stop you?" he then took me over to his red hatch and, as my jaw dropped(this was the first lifted subaru i had ever seen), he proceeded to show me how he cut off the old one and just bolted on the correct core support (i prefer the 80-81 core support, the best round head light grill IMO) for the single square head lights which he liked better. i would have done the switch but i got my fix by converting my hatch to round.

if you're concerned about strengh you could do it this way and then later have someone tack it in place...

hope this helps

So, I'm going to go pull these parts on Saturday morning... Bezels, grill, third light, mounting crap, etc...

I figure I'll possibly have the only 84 turbo wagon with the dual round headlights, the clear/yellow rock guards (oh ya, euro, right Brad?) and a third light.

So, I'll get the parts and start pluggin away...And I'll let you guys know what happens.

Later,

Daniel

yeah seriously... glad this was brought back cause I want to get some round H4s...

hmm... I don't like the looks of single rounds, terribly... does anyone know how different the conversion would be for single squares? it's the same bulb assembly I swapped into the XT, so I know the bulbs are easy.
