Hi all,

 

My new sube (97 legacy wgn, 2.2, 5sp) came with a couple "support your state troopers" stickers on the bumpers, although i do support my state troopers, at least when they're not pulling me over, i prefer a nice, clean, non stickered car.

 

Whats the best way to remove stickers? I have some of that goop-off stuff, but am worried that it will damage the paint. Suggestions? tried and true methods? alternate products?

Try warming with hair dryer and peel off gently.

I have used a hot air gun or poured a little hot water out of a tea pot over the sticker. Any glue that remains can usually be removed with tar remover which is specifically intended for cleaning gummy stuff off paint without hurting it.

Goo-Gone will not hurt the paint.

 

Either will charcoal lighter fluid if you have some of that laying around.

goo gone. Works like a charm. I used it to get sticker goo off my car when I got it. I also used to remove sap as well.

 

It will however remove the wax protecting the paint. So you should rewax the car or at least the part you used goo gone on.

You don't appreciate the influence those stickers give you. The best time to "support" your state troopers IS when they're pullling you over.

goo gone or plain old isopropyl alcohol will do the trick. One thing to note is that you need to let the stuff stay in contact with the adhesive for a while to do its magic. If you wet a paper towel or piece of rag with the solvent and stick it over the remaining adhesive and let it sit there for 5 min or so. If the rag is wet enough it will stay stuck on its own. After the egg timer has gone off, take the rag off and use a clean rag or towel soaked in the solvent to take off the sitcker. Repeat if needed. After its all gone, a quick wash down with some dish soap and water will take care of any leftover solvent and keep the area from attracting dirt.

DO NOT USE BRAKE PAD CLEANER. I used some on my plastic head lamp and it smeared the plastic. BAD.

 

Oh yeah someone mentioned heating the sticker and removing it carefully that is a good idea. I removed one from my bumber in the cold and it took some of the paint with it.

 

Good luck.

Rubbing alcohol, Goo-Gone, turpentine (if it's not on a paint surface), or a high-pressure water jet.

OR:

As BrusBrother already suggested, warm it with a hair dry and peel gently. This will not leave any residue.
