April 10, 200520 yr I have a 93 Loyale and sometimes it will start and other times it will not. When it doesnt start you can still here a clicking sound at the starter and it can be jumped off at the starter. It starts everytime when it is jumped. Can anyone suggest what needs to be replaced? Also I am planning on pulling the engine (EA82) this next weekend to replace some of the seals as it is leaking oil pretty badly. What would you guys suggest to replace when I have the engine pulled out? Also does anyone know of any posts that might be of some help? I did a search but didn't get anything back. Thanks

Thanks check the clutch and check the timing belts. sounds like the starter solenoid is broken. someone here will have one
April 10, 200520 yr it isn't too hard to take the back plate off the starter and look at the contacts. You can probably find good contacts at the junkyard, or just buy them new, they shouldn't be too much. although, if it always starts when you jump it, it could be a problem with the ignition circuit. (I don't really know how to troubleshoot this though :-))
April 10, 200520 yr the contacts are about 50cents for both at your local parts shop. they are very straitforward to replace when you pull the cover off the back of the starter.
April 10, 200520 yr Author So does it bypass those contacts when you jump it? The reason I ask is because like I said it always starts when I jump it using a screw driver.
April 11, 200520 yr IIRC, there is a semi-common problem where the plug under the dash for the ignition circuit overheats and melts, causing problems. I'd take a quick look around for anything obvious, and hopefully someone else more knowledgable can chime in.

(91 loyale-auto) it made a clicking sound from under the dash but after trying to troubleshoot the problem...very poorly i gave up and installed a starter button in the dash. very easy to do and i never had a problem after that.
