April 30, 200520 yr Hi All, I'm interested in Subaru models worldwide. I'm wondering if the same models are available over in the US as here, well if my model is. I have seen Ford cars in Australia which are nothing like the models here although the model name is the same.Would also help me out when buying parts or accessories on line. there aren't many Subaru dealers here so parts are expensive, my nearest dealer is near 100 miles away. If anyone has one of these models( 2000 Impreza GL 1600cc Rally blue) I'd like to view a picture. I'm planning on submitting my photos to USMB over the coming days - bank holiday weekend so plenty of time to get things done like that.
April 30, 200520 yr 1600cc is egual to 1.6 liters i take.1.8 liter engines are the smallest ones i've seen in subies.most of the imprezas i come across are either 1.8 or 2.2 alot of the times when i've searched for parts on-line.most of the time i needed to supply model an trim package.occasionally i had to give engine size.
April 30, 200520 yr The 1.6 litre engine was never offered in the US Legacy/Impreza lineup. Is your Impreza the 1.6 FWD? If you are shopping for parts from America online, everything from 1993 to 2001 will fit your application, as long as it isn't engine related. Thats not to say some engine stuff wouldn't work, but no one on this side of the Atlantic deals with that engine. Good Luck, Kevin
April 30, 200520 yr Thats not to say some engine stuff wouldn't work my mech has an impreza with the 1.8 and it looks identical on the outside to the 2.2 so maybe some engine parts might fit(external parts)
April 30, 200520 yr Author Thanks all check out pics when I post. If anyone else has pics post a link. This message board is the dogs b*****.
April 30, 200520 yr I was strictly talking about the 1.6L engine from his 2000 GL...I thought I was pretty clear. If he is shopping from an american based vendor, then any product for a 1993-2001 Impreza will be ok for him to use (Body, suspension, rims, interior, audio ect ect) excepting engine related products. Thats not to say that some parts from the 1.8L or the 2.2L engines won't work on the 1.6, but I think this board may be hard pressed to find someone that actually does know how interchangable the 1.6 is with US engines.
May 1, 200520 yr Author but I think this board may be hard pressed to find someone that actually does know how interchangable the 1.6 is with US engines. -I agree not many would be experts on both sides of the Atlantic. It brings me to another topic. I have a Clarion head unit with changer. The changer stopped working for no reason after 6 years heavy & absolutey trouble free use.I managed to fix it tonight but fear it won't last long. Can i purchase a head unit and changer in the US for use here? Are all batteries 12v?
May 1, 200520 yr I was strictly talking about the 1.6L engine from his 2000 GL...I thought I was pretty clear. QUOTE] i was just saying that how two different size(cc)engines can still look the same on the outside,an prob have some external parts that were interchangeable.wasn't directed towards a certain engine.should of been more clear on my end. my bad
May 1, 200520 yr All battery's in the states are 12 Volt. At least for past few decades anyway. I don't know if they do Zones on Cd's like DVD's. I dont think so. So theoretically you could get a changer here. Just take a Pic of the plug or count the Pins and draw a picture if you cant get a good shot. I personally would ditch the stock deck. But maybe a Clarion is worth keeping in there. International shipping is a pretty detailed event especially if you are shipping merchandise. I couldn't beleive how hard it was just to ship to Canada. So you may find it is cheaper to buy over there. Thanks
May 1, 200520 yr The water pump boxes I see here from Paraut say they fit 1.6L engines and fit the EJ18, EJ22, etc. The only engines here with differences in water pumps are the turbo ones. Same with Oil pumps. Tensioners are pretty universal too.
May 2, 200520 yr Author . I personally would ditch the stock deck. But maybe a Clarion is worth keeping in there. I agree the stock radio was crap. This is a system I've used i last 3 cars. Clarion are good systems-when time to replace I'll buy Clarion again. Thanks for info
May 2, 200520 yr Can i purchase a head unit and changer in the US for use here? Are all batteries 12v? Aren't there differences in the radio frequencies between the US and some other countries?? Not sure?? Just something in the back of my head is warning that you should check this out before you go to the expense of importing one...
May 2, 200520 yr Gee Neil. I'm no expert on exchangeability for the Atlantic, but I am for the Pacific, and since Subaru makes the EJ16 in Japan, I guess I might qualify. The big difference will be if it is carburated or injected. The injected engine is a bolt in, but the carbed engine requires some mods. The only carbed EJ16 that I know of has a distributor, it was exported to Third World Countries only. I guess Ireland would qualify for that (jk'ing I'm Scottish).
