May 9, 200520 yr See some Outbacks/Legacys have stock hood scoops and some don't. I thought maybe the 6cyls did but then see that many 4cyl do. Was there a particular year that do or don't? Are they fuctional? Wanting to know just to help me identify years and models. Peter S

May 9, 200520 yr Sorry Gnuman but all the subaru's driving around with hood scoops dont have turbo's. I have a 98 Legacy 2.5 GT w/ a hood scoop and no turbo.. the scoop is "functional" as far as letting free air into the engine bay to help keep things "cool" i guess. I don't know when they started putting the scoops on the non-turbo'd soobies.. but they do it.
May 9, 200520 yr Any subaru with a hood scoop from 1995 till 2004 that was NOT a WRX has a non-functional hoodscoop. 1991-1994 turbo legacies had scoops. 199?-2005 wrx have scoops that work 2005 Legacies have functional hoodscoops. Although, the 91-94 turbo legacies didnt have an intercooler so they also were kinda non-functional!
May 9, 200520 yr In OZ if it has a scoop it has a turbo, the old liberties that had water cooled intercooler still had a scoop to direct air to the turbo to keep it cool
May 9, 200520 yr <<Although, the 91-94 turbo legacies didnt have an intercooler so they also were kinda non-functional!>> actually is is functional, there is a factory pipe that funnels the air down to cool the turbo.
May 9, 200520 yr 1997 - 1999 Outbacks had non-working ones...like the Legacy GT of the same time period. I think those were the years they had them....
