i have a 87 turbo a/t fwd wagon , the power windows on the passanger side does not work , either from the drivers side or passanger , i think there is a breaker some where not sure any help ? thanks :boohoo:

I think the breaker is a self reset type and it feeds all the window circuits I beleive. My hunch is you have a problem with the switches in the drivers door for those windows.

hrmm... sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere. Check to see if you have power at the switches with a DVOM or with a test light. I could possibly be a bad ground on the passenger side cause if both of the windows don't work, that might be the case cause they have a shared ground if I'm not mistaken. So pull out the door panels and find out where the ground is. It could be corroded or be disconnected.

both driver side windows work, but the passenger windows dont.

 

jim, i noticed the switch was busted on the passenger rear door.

 

i remember danny;s car had the switch hanging by the wire, and it got caught in the door, and busted. after that half his windows didnt work.

 

in that switch there may be electrical connectiond that complete the other window's circuits.

 

replace that switch with a good one (i'm sure you have one on one of those doors you got!

 

i looked at it and the wire is pretty far down there, so you will probably have to remove the door panel to get at it.

 

replace the switch and see if that fixes it, and we'll go from there. i highly doubt the window motors themselves are bad, but at least fix the switch before removing the seats and carpet to check the breaker

I had a problem with my window switches on the 87 RX and took the switches ALL the way apart.

 

The contacts in the switches were ugly with carbon(?) and gunk.

 

Cleaned the contacts, carefully reassembled and they all work.

 

Pretty straight forward, pay attention to how they come apart.

Checking my service manual, it shows a commom breaker for the windows so that is ok. It also shows a relay to feed power to all the windows so that is ok. After the relay, power goes to all the windows on red wires. Check for power there at the window switch. It is the only red wire on the connector. If you have power there then you most likely have trouble in the main drivers door switch assembly unless some wires have been severed to the window switches.

Not 100% here on how Subaru does theirs. But on most cars, the Driver's window controls are the Master Switches. Meaning you can put the window up, even if the brat in the backseat is trying to put it down in the middle of a blizzard. Could be something went amiss with that switch console. Also, make sure that you haven't inadvertantly hit the "lock" button, for the window controls. This disables the other switches until you "unlock" them. Gotten repair calls that turned out to be just that. Made the owners feel real small, D'OH!!! On another note... Glad to hear that our day of wrenching on that car turned out good. Also, that your worries on the tranny were answered in a good way. What have you found out about the noise from the brakes? Just rusty from setting, or are they in need of service? Later.....

we looked at them quickly , rust from sitting and in the future the pads will need replaced , but ok for now

get that thing legal and drive it all over! so how did that offer go on the sedan? it would make a good weekend body project, bondo and spray paint to fix the wheel arches before they go bad.

maybe you can borrow the one of the xt, or the one of that 2wd auto if it will fot on a 4wd

OK, I went through this about two months ago with my 92 Loyale, and your system sounds just like mine. Basically, out of the relay switch comes one common red hot wire that feeds juice to all of your windows. In my car, it traveled about 18 inches and was only really taped to the other four wires goig to each of the individual windows. That connection in mine had corroded away and I lost one window, then another, then all of them. I replaced the wire, and put in a better connection system and all works to this day.

My relay, control box and power supply was all situated under the passenger seat and the red wire ran under the rug, so removal of the passenger seat was necessary. I'm not sure if this is the way it works on your car, but hopefully it may help.

the rear passenger door, the window switch is missing the button that operates it. therefore probably un-grounding the passenger side. the circuitry is funny like that

Sorry, I should have mentioned that all of this circuitry is underneath the carpet. My control runs along the door side rail of the passenger seat on the floor under the carpet, and there is a red wire plus a multitude of other wires leading from the power window control unit that lead out to where the passengers feet would rest under the carpet. That is where my "connection" was, and also the source of my problem.

 

I'm not sure if not having a switch in the back passenger side window would cause a problem. At least on mine, all of the windows were grounded through the main drivers side control and that in turn ran a ground wire back to the control unit and from there was grounded to the car. If the drivers side windows are working, I would assume that ground is good, although maybe I'm wrong.

after replacing the switch on the passenger rear door, the window worked, and with the driver door switch.

the front passenger window was a bad motor. now they all work.

 

but i have found that whatever windw is unplugged from its swwitch, it wont work at the drivers switch either
