ea81 Brat ASV problems

Featured Replies

My roomates brat melted the ASV silencer and all the hoses today on the drivers side. Now the exhuast is blowing through the ASV port. Now they are air suction valves, so they are supposed to suck into the exhaust. What caused the Vavle to start blowing exhaust into the airbox? I'm thinking just taking off the pipe out of the exhaust port and welding the pipe shut and putting it back on.

Any ideas to get it fixed up? I'm leaving for the summer at the end of the week, and I wanna try to have it fixed for him before I go.

thanks guys

There are reeds in that valve. They must have gotten eaten away. There is a thread on here somewhere about how to fix the valve. You can plug the air suction.. but supposedly this can result in melting the catalytic convert... i hope those reed pieces didnt get into the carb.

The valve is meant add air to the exhuast so unburned fuel can be burnt off in cat, so would plugging the valve make the cat run cooler?

These valves fail from time to time you should goto a junkyard and pull one. Yeh plastic in the carb: i have heard can be very annoying.
