Ok, I have a really stupid question. is the engine stamped anywhere telling me what engine I have? I'm new to Subaru’s so I don't know where to go looking. It's an '84 GL Wagon, it's carbureted and has a automatic transmission if that helps any. Thanks.

My guess is you have an "EA81" Its a pushrod 1.8 liter engine with like 76 HP or so.

 

It should be stamped on the front, top of the block up near the distributor.
