June 8, 200520 yr Well I just installed a new disty...and I'm nearly 100% sure I'm on the right tooth. Tried to turn it over....no catch. Then would twist the disty a bit, try again...no improvement. What next??? Help!
June 8, 200520 yr Are you getting spark? It should threaten to run or backfire if your plugs are sparking. Check its connected to the coil and there is no shorts.
June 8, 200520 yr Author It doesn't even threaten to run.....I did notice that the #3 plug wire does not have a good connection onto the disty cap...could this be the cause, or should I look at the coil??? Thanks
June 8, 200520 yr If it is 180 degrees out it won't start or even try for that matter. Remove the number one spark plug(passenger front) and bring the engine up to compression stroke. Once you start to feel compression look to your timing marks. Place the timing mark on "0". Now find the number one wire on your distributor cap. Make sure the contact point on the rotor is pointing to theat spot. Adjust as neccessary to get it in the right spot. Wiring for the coil if it doesn't have a plug is black to hot side and yellow to the negative side. Good luck.
June 8, 200520 yr Yep yep. Most likely you're 180* out as Qman says. Go back and try again. Any chance you got the wires mixed up as well? Triple check those.. use the diagram I attached in your original thread. Bring #1 to TDC like I've explained in the last thread, and like how others have explained. Remove the dizzy and try again.
June 8, 200520 yr Author Ok.....I didn't pull the plug to feel the compression, but rather removed the cap (taking note where #1 plug goes.....cranked the wheel until the rotor pointed at or near where the #1 plug goes.....lined up TDC, adjusted dissy, cap on....done. Could I still be 180 degrees off??? Or is my thinking off. Thanks for your help guys...........
June 8, 200520 yr you could be off any number of ways in either direction doing it that way Follow Qman's advice and you'll hit it dead on every time
June 8, 200520 yr #1 cylinder is the front on the passenger side, rotation is counterclockwise 1,3,2,4 is this ea82 or ea81 motor?
