July 4, 200520 yr got a nice a/t awd legacy wagon , but need a key made for it , wheel is locked ,and i really do not want to change all the locks, ignition.. if i remember you can use the vn# and get 1 made ,
July 4, 200520 yr If the Legacy is like the earlier Subaru models, remove the door panel from the front passenger door and check the lock cylinder on that side. The key code was stamped into the side of the lock cylinder on the older models; maybe it still is.
July 4, 200520 yr PM'd you. Country living is nice... until you got to find a Subaru dealer or a locksmith.
July 5, 200520 yr The key itself should have the key code on it as well. I didn't have luck with the door lock.
July 5, 200520 yr any dealer can look up the key code from the VIN number. but only IF the original dealership that sold the car entered the key code when purchased. they have to (and typically do) enter the key code information when the car is sold. i've done this a number of times and only once was the number not available. in that case i pulled the numbers off the lock cylinder and they cut it from that. i only had to remove the door panel to see the numbers on the lock cylinder, no need to remove anything else.
July 5, 200520 yr Id love to do it...but I cant cut keys anymore. I CAN see about getting your actual key code tho. PM me.
July 5, 200520 yr Author thanks , i will get vn# tomorrow and call the dealer , which i have gotton many parts from
July 5, 200520 yr they'll definitely hook you up, they've always been helpful to me. sometimes the city dealers really suck (can't blame them, sure they deal with some serious boneheads), but never problems getting key information.
July 5, 200520 yr Some local lock smiths here will make you a key for a car as long as the title/registration is in your name, found this one out when my sister managed to snap her key in the ignition, got it out just to lose it on the way to the lock smith.
