97 Impreza Outback Sport Automatic hard shifts

Featured Replies

I have a new to me 97 Impreza Outback Sport with 87,000 miles on it. It shifts

very grabby from 1st to 2nd and the rest of the shifts are smooth up and down. I have had the tranny flushed and it still acts the same. Is this normal for these cars ? Are there some things I can look for?

Thanks for the help

Tony

Mine's smooth when i don't gun it... if i'm flooring it, it's pretty hard....

My '96 Outback shifted like that - I liked it; I wish my newer Outbacks shifted that well.

My outback 2.2 and the legacy 2.5 both shift like that at 180K. Sometimes its a bit disturbing, but better that then a slow wishy sliding shift that hints at doom.
