August 20, 200520 yr blew out a front axle tonight, the inner boot tore clean off then it imploded.. all while driving down the highway.. anyways, i removed the axle shaft from the ends , left the ends on the trans, and in the hub of course. then drove home in 4high (RWD style) just wondering if this is gonna trash my trans and/or diff? gonna be a week or so before i can afford to buy an axle for it.. and i drive it about 150 miles a day 6 days a week.. any words of wisdom on this subject?
August 20, 200520 yr Ive heard that some people on this board have driven with out a front axle for indefinate periods of time with no problems, some do it becuase they like the rear wheel drive handling. I dont think you need to worry.
August 20, 200520 yr as long as it's not pushbutton, you should be fine, I've heard a couple of the turbo guys screw things up, but as long as you're not doing any big powerslides on pavement or anything, it'll be fine. I do it quite frequently (#%^&$#$ reman'd axles...)
August 20, 200520 yr Yeah I drove from Redding California to Albany Oregon in RWD mode after losing a CV. Ive done it in my old Brat too. Never experienced any ill effects, you should be fine for a week or two. I drove my Brat in RWD for a couple months I believe. -Brian
