August 21, 200520 yr i was lookin online and i am having a very hard time finding performance parts for the xt turbo, or maybe i am not looking in the right spots. any help/links/ideas/how-to's would be greatly appreciated. mike
August 21, 200520 yr Umm.. There really isn't anything. With some brain power and work though you can adapt stuff to fit.
August 21, 200520 yr check out www.xt6.net it's like a support group for people that can't find aftermarket parts for their subaru xt's :-\
August 21, 200520 yr Once you hit xt6.net you will come across a sentence where some critics described the car as a "sheep in wolf's clothing." In other words, they're not really very fast, just like the rest of the EA-series cars. You'll have to get creative in your modding to get power out of them. avatar382 has an 87 XT Turbo with extensive mods that can probably keep up with a stock WRX, and that's honestly probably the fastest EA-series car in the US right now. (Don't argue WJM, your car is busted )
August 22, 200520 yr Author i was thinking of saving my money for a ej20 front clip when i can afford it, but for now it will be a front mount intercooler and cooling fix, like a aluminum rad and twin fans, will definitely check out the xt6.net page and see what i can dig up thnx mike
August 22, 200520 yr ...and cooling fix, like a aluminum rad and twin fans... The cooling ability of an aluminum radiator is inferior to that of a copper/brass one.
August 22, 200520 yr Author ok, so the intercooler mounting is goin to be up to me, and the rad will be a stocker, either a xt6 or xt turbo car. thnx mike
August 22, 200520 yr The cooling ability of an aluminum radiator is inferior to that of a copper/brass one. I'm curious how you came to this conclusion. My understanding was that aluminum was an excellent dissipator of heat.
August 22, 200520 yr Copper has a higher thermal tranfer rate than aluminum. If you are "in" to computers at all, this is why the high-end heat sinks are either copper-core or solid copper. Aluminum is used instead of copper for 3 main reasons: 1) it is cheaper 2) it is lighter 3) it is cheaper I know that 1 and 2 are the same, but I thought it was important enough to mention it twice.
August 22, 200520 yr (Don't argue WJM, your car is busted ) Its NOT busted anymore! But its currently slow...no intercooler and its VERY untuned...its least its safe and has a tank full of C16 right now, so it shouldnt blow up.
August 22, 200520 yr ...its least its safe and has a tank full of C16 right now, so it shouldnt blow up. Is that 4x as safe as a tank full of C4???
August 22, 200520 yr Is that 4x as safe as a tank full of C4??? Um, no. C16 is a 116 octane LEADED race only fuel.
August 22, 200520 yr Ohnoes teh feds are goign to be at WJM's house for using race fuel on teh street.
August 22, 200520 yr doesnt matter, I've got a 3way cat in it. They cant do anything about it. lol Sure they can: Using leaded fuel in a CatCon equipped car is still a Federal crime. Anyways, I am sure that they would make up some special charge just for YOU, a known Ne'erdowell and Disturber Of The Status Quo!
August 24, 200520 yr Author i have a couple of lines on some intercoolers, and front mount seems to be the way to go with the space i got in the front, but the cooling is not bad if i stay out of the throttle more, and i got my turbosmart boost controller on 10 psi right now and she seems to be working, might consider turbo swap with custom manifold and downpipe, money constraint holding me right now mike
