breaffyaviation Posted October 6, 2005 Author Share Posted October 6, 2005 Dont really know.I sent a guy a pair of heads and he told me he took them to an engine shop where they told him one was good but the other failed a vacuum test.I'm still no wiser. nipper Posted October 6, 2005 Share Posted October 6, 2005 i think he meant a pressure test, you block off all the water passages then you pressurize it to 9 psi, and it has to hold the pressure. Jude vacum test at a machine shop means that they have a device with a foam pad that pulls a vacum, you place it over each port, intake or exhaust, and pull a vacum, if it dosnt hold than that means that valve is leaking, needs a valve job, seats ground and valves refaced, sometimes valves will burn and need to be replaced or seats will need to be replaced,rarely the head will have a prob like electrolisis and cannot be repaired, machine shops will usuily pressure test 1st to look for cracks and then vacum test to check valve condtion Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
