  1. You wont learn any younger.Get stuck in ,and you will never look back .I built my first engine at 14 and the only one time in the forty three years since that I left a vehicle to a repair shop they screwed it up .In a couple of weeks you will be giving us advice on clutch replacement . Enjoy the experience , Jude
  2. Bob ,You dont need anything extra in your system .I had the same problem on an ea 82 with carb ,I thought I had fried the electronics in the distributor ,but when I followed the manual ,everything worked.I still have the engine and distributor if you want to borrow my dist ,Im in chicago. Regards Jude
  3. They built a nest in the tail of my airplane ,so far back the cat couldent get in .Had to remove the fabric.Once its all finished the cat will have a nice new home ,her own personal plane. Jude:banana:
  4. Hi Paul, Yes St patrick was Italian (son of a Roman Garrison centurion based on English Welsh border.) Certainly he chased the snakes from Ireland. But where did they go??? All crossed the Atlantic and became Politicians. Happy birthday to the Missus. I still have two spare Ea 81 engines .Will I keep one for You? I have pretty much finished the mechanical installation of the Ea 81 ,put a chevy Denso starter on it (Sitting on the engine ),Suzuki alternator ,twin Mikuni carbs on tube intake ,nissan rad ,made new engine mount but cant go flying until the whole airframe is repainted ,new glass and covering .No rush ,it only took me 35 years to get this far .Will put up some pictures as soon as I figure out how to work a digital camera . Regards Jude
  5. Happy St Patricks Day to all . Slainte! Jude
  6. Swap you an ea 82 for a corvair engine. Jude
  7. Damn, I was certain I had it ,worn muffler bearings first guess . Second guess ,Giggling pin loose on the laughing shaft . Jude
  8. Made a plate to fit over the head opening .Drilled a inch and a quarter hole for the intake.Drilled a oval shaped hole for the coolant .Brazed my intake pipe and coolant stubs to the plate. Link the coolant pipes and tee off for thermostat and top hose.Took a few hours.Sorry I dont know how to post pictures ,wrong generation. Jude
  9. You need a single control rod between the two carbs for throttle, then balance your carbs. You also need to link the inlets on both sides with a small hose to balance the vacuum. If you tee your brakes off this balancing pipe it will equalize when the brakes are applied.I have two mikuni carbs with separate manifolds but only a quarter inch balance pipe ,since I dont need the brake pipe on a plane. If you are going to do this why not go the whole hog and lose the hitachis ,put a couple of webers on there. Regards Jude
  10. Bob The numbers on mine are 22100AA121 andD4R84-52 5203. Jude
  11. Just as a matter of general interest to a lot of people on this board who are looking for weber carbs. The 32/36 are getting rare in US .However these are still in common use on lots of european cars used exclusively in Europe.Go into Ebay ,scroll down to Ebay U. K .and there are usually webers of all descriptions.Remember ,parts off UK cars are likely to be way better maintained than U S cars as standards are a lot tougher.(Any perforation through the sheet metal within one foot of a structural part puts your car off the road).Only down side is that mailing costs to the Us are a killer. Regards Jude
  12. You will find them on Ebay for about twenty bucks made for a Jeep..They are listed as "clinometer". Daihatsu and Mitsubishi made the nice though, all in one ball with up and down and left to right and even showed your G force. This one can be used as a poormans attitude indicator in a plane. Regards Jude
  13. The first time I attempted to do belts on an ea 82 engine ,I had no idea what I was dealing with. The people on this board made it very easy for me.I agree with Miles Fox,do it yourself ,ask the questions here, and throw the plastic covers away.I have a spare new unused set of Pirelli belts, some used but servicable tensioners and and even a complete engine going very reasonable. If you need anything Let me know. Regards Jude
  14. Your engine rotates counter clockwise when standing facing the flywheel Regards Jude
  15. Thank you both for the info.I needed to know if I had enough vacuum to operate an old WW2 horizon gyro that someone had sitting on a shelf .It requires 4.5 in hg. Thanks again and Happy Christmas to all. Jude
  16. Do any of the knowledgable folks on this board know how much vacuum is produced (in hg) at the intake manifold of a non turbo ea 81? Regards Jude
  17. Take a look on Ebay for shop manuals . I got mine dead cheap .250 is way too much for an an unknown engine. Hundred bucks is more like it. Jude
  18. I have a bunch of ea 81 clutches I will never use if you want me to check sizes I have laying around .They are used and came off engines I got for airplanes .Dont know offhand what I have . Jude
  19. The marks on your cams are not supposed to line up .When one is up the other should be down. Before you dig too far I would check the belts and tensioner.A frozen tensioner would cause the noise you describe and also fry your belt. I'm not an expert, just a lifelong student. Jude
  20. Dont really know.I sent a guy a pair of heads and he told me he took them to an engine shop where they told him one was good but the other failed a vacuum test.I'm still no wiser. Thanks for the reply, Jude (P.S.) To Northwet ; I just got back from a trip to your part of the world . Beautiful countryside, had a great time.
