  1. Suggest you very gently remove them all.I think I still have an original somewhere that simply says it all : LED ZEPPELLIN. I know ,Im showing my age. Black Dog. Jude
  2. Took me a full day to trim the intake ,but I had to be absolutely sure of my plugs etc.You can take a chance with a car engine ,or even a hovercraft, but pulling over and stepping out on the nearest cloud could take a little practice. Jude
  3. What do you intend to use the engine for?I stripped mine for aircraft use but weight was the big issue with me.If its going in a boat or buggy then you will have less work.I cut out all the emissions stuff and ground out the passages that were no longer used .Drill tap and plug all your vacuums except for one to yor distributor. If its going in the air you will need a I/2 inch additional vac line at the carb base with a valve on it to lean the mixture at alltitude.I cut the extra flange off the main pulley made a new light weight bracket to carry a 35 A Suzuki alternator,Gor rid of the flywheel and mounted a Chevy flexplate and Chevy Denso racing starter sitting on the engine rather than the soob starter which has to mount from behind the engine.I made an adapter plate and mounted a carter holly carb off a bronco (No emissions junk, just throttle and manual choke)You are better to stick with the intake manifold than making a new one as the water is carried thro it and making 2 new separate systems for fuel and coolant can be a pain. Hope this helps Happy Easter Jude
  4. Not familiar with legacy engine but the big thing to watch for on the earlier model 82 engines was when you lined up your first cam ,the pinhole in line with the slot in the timing cover, lets call it the 12 o clock position ,your other cam was in the 6 o clock position..Both cams did not line up at the same time. There was a full turn of the engine between them.I dont know if yours has the same system, but its no harm to be aware and make sure. Happy Easter. Jude
  5. Thanks to all who took the time to respond Happy Easter. Jude [
  6. Bet the shaft into the trans got caught in the clutch when they pulled the trans. Maybe they just pushed it right back and did not engage the splines..Thats where I would look..My 2 CJude
  7. You do not line up both cams at the same time.Look at the heads and you will see each cylinder numbered ,stamped on the head.First line up the passenger belt, the little hole lines up with a slot cut in the back of the timing cover..Set this belt and tighten. Then turn your engine over a turn until this cam has the little hole pointing directly away from the slot(pointing to the 5 o clock position )Now your drivers side cam hole lines up with the slot on its side.Put simply, when one is up the other should be down.I hope Im not confusing you . Good luck Jude
  8. Never heard it run .I got it to put in a sport plane. Jude
  9. Has anyone had experience with an EA81 crankshaft that has a forward to backward play of 64 thou. You can pull and push on the pulley and measure the amount of movement at the flywheel end. Is it repairable with a new set of bearings? or is it gone too far? If there is that much play and movement ,is the crank itself likely to be F****** I know it also involves new head gaskets etc.Is it more trouble than its worth? Any info would be appreciated. Regards Jude
  10. Happy St Patricks Day to all and may we all live to see many more. Slainte ! Jude
  11. Go back and check your belts again. Assuming your belts were on right before you changed them ,your distributor should have finished up in its original position. If the distributor moved ,then you are out a tooth.Timing an engine by ear went out with the model T.If you still have the same gas in your tank that you had before the operation, and you now have a pinking noise,it spells timing. Good luck,I very successfully screwed up mine the first time. Jude
  12. Happy Birthday. With all going well I should see you next Sunday. Jude
  13. Any difference between an ea 81 distributor and an Ea 82 carbed ,non turbo engine distributor?Just curious.I was asked and dont know the answer. Jude
  14. Change oil ,change filter .If your noise is still there check the oil pump pressure. If there is no working gauge in your car ,just a light, connect a gauge directly to the sender unit.Usually bearing damage is a knock rather than a tick,a tick is more like oil starvation at your lifters. You shold be getting in the region of 40 pounds + of oil pressure if your pump and engine are healthy. You might be lucky and just need a pump. Jude
  15. Failte romhat.Thats Gaelic for Welcome .(It is after all nearly St.Patricks day) Jude
