October 8, 200520 yr My 87 GL Wagon has problems starting up first thing in the morning but once it is warmed up it starts just fine. I have found that if I give it some gas that it will fire up just fine. I was wondering is this a problem that everyone has with a carbed Subaru of this year or is there something I can do to help it start up more efficiently? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
October 8, 200520 yr all carbed subarus will do that.holding the gas down (when its off) for a couple seconds engages the choke, then after it runs for a little while, give it another kick wich dis-engages the choke.might sound complicated, but you`ll get the hang of it Jon
October 9, 200520 yr Yep, I concure. When cold, pump the throttle once and then start it. If if revs to hi, >2000 rpms give another pump while running and that should bring it down to close to 1500 or so which I think is supposed to be the cold idle rpm.

October 10, 200520 yr mine jumps up to 2000+ and then when i kick it again, it just dies. I have to hold the gas pedal a little to keep it at 1000, and i have to let it warm up or it will die at stop signs the first 1/8 of a mile or so. I have a feeling it will get worse with colder weather, does anybody know what it could be? I have a feeling it's some kinda spring to the choke or something. Thanks to anybody who has a solution. Should I have done a search before I asked this ???
October 10, 200520 yr On mine, for cold startup, I have to wait till the fuel pump stops, give it one squirt from the gas pedal then it'll start right up.
