stop light woes,what the heck?!

Featured Replies

for one reason or another my stop light will come on when breaking for just a sec then go out. now this does not happen every time i break just once in awhile like every 3 weeks or so. i understand that this is to let you know you have a tail light out but all my bulbs are in working order. is this a bad groun or somethig? hobe you experianced subie guys can help.

EL TORO!!

You mean the warning light comes on briefly?

That usually happens if you have a trailer connector or a high stop light wired in slightly "wrong". Wrong as in its connected to one side of the circuit, so there is an imbalance when its turned on. If thats the case, don't worry about it.

mine does this all the time, it says stop lamp, so i went out and checked it while my dad pressed the brakes, and neither of the bulbs were burnt out. i just leave it alone, its a old car lol

i dont have a trailer hitch set up but i do have a 3rd break light. but why only sometimes does it do this and not all the time. maby its gunck in the socket ill clean them out tonight and see what happens

There is a resistor pack of some sort on that warning system. its located on the back of the taillight assembly behind a piece of plastic. A wire to that could be broke or corroded, so certain bumps will create a path for the elec, and then sometimes it could be loosing a signal. The way the warning systems work, is that resistor looks for the bulb drawing power, when the bulb burns out or breaks, it no longer draws power, so the resistor activates the stop light.

hope that explains it a lil

Mine that constantly. I pulled the stop bulbs and found the contacts were worn and corroded. I replaced the bulbs and cleaned the contacts with a small pick.. problem solved
