My brat's hood will not release by use of the cable. I have to remove the grill and stick an 8mm wrench in and get it to release.]

 

How do I go about replacing the cable or should I just adjust it in some way?

you need to replace it. The outer sheath has given way and shrunk and no matter of adjustment will fix that for any length of time.

On 2 of my BRATs, the release won't release unless I push on the handle 1st, then pull it. Try that before you swap the cable out.

I have just bought a subaru brat and the person that I bought it from has an ideal way to fix it. Since I am in hawaii and everyone fishes he used some 300lb test fishing line. All you ahve to do is tuck it away when you don't need it and adn you aren't going to break it.
