EA81 Tranny Bolt Up To EA82

Featured Replies

I have a 5 speed out of my EA81 hatchback, does anyone know if it will bolt up to an EA82 wagon that needs a new tranny?

i don't think you can cause i was reading in the repair manual on here and someone put an ea-82 tranny to an ea-81 motor and they had to grind something of of the tranny. but you might be able to make an adpater.

the bell housing bolt patterns are the same. the grinding is needed if you are going to mate a 5 speed D/R to an ea81 bell housing, as the flywheel has a bigger backside profile, and needs to have the bottom edges of the ea81 bell housing adjusted a bit.

you will need to use the flywheel/pressure plate/clutch that goes with the 4 speed.

What i am talking about is taking the 5 Speed out of my GL Hatch and putting that into a 87 5 speed EA82 wagon because its tranny is burned out.

i know what else you could do the with that ea-81 tranny. i got a hatch with the need of a 5 speedicon10.gif
