Rear storage boxes for wagons?

Featured Replies

Has anyone built a rear storage box with drawers for their wagons? If so, does anyone know of good online resources with tips on construction?

I've got a bunch of scrap materials I collected for another vehicle I was going to build a box for, and since i'm thinking about getting an older generation wagon, wondering if it's been done before...

I'll be tossing something together for an EA82 wagon soon.

Check dumpsters at office parks for drawer slides, pulls, etc. if you're looking for ultra cheap/free materials.

Personally,I'm going to make a pull out work bench that'll have a fold down support leg and be able to handle a miter saw.I'm going to make the rear cargo area pretty much all wood with side boxes,etc......someday.

For what purpose? Camping equipment? Work related supplies and materials? Tools? What did you have in mind?

This guy who took a Landcruiser from Alaska to the southern tip of S. America built some some nice looking storage drawers and cubbys:

Actually, the vehicle I was going to build the box for was an old Toyota Landcruiser wagon I was going to buy, but skipped on when fuel prices went so high. I had many detailed plans for building them, with all the detailed blueprints with material lists and estimated costs.

The proper drawer slides, that can hold any weight cost between $90 and $160, or at least the ones for a Land Cruiser, probally one for a Subaru will cost a little less.

Sort of looks like I will have to make up my own plans once I get a wagon...

I'm in love with that Land Cruiser. The best part are the signatures all over the front! What a great way to memorialize a trip!

Pull the rear seat out and tech ( self tapping ) screw a large galv. toolbox to the floor in it's place ... that's what I did :)
