November 22, 200520 yr So my wife decided to hit something with the passenger side view mirror on our 1994 Legacy wagon. Scratched the black housing, but broke the mirror. Can I just replace the mirror portion somehow, or does the whole unit need to be replaced? Also, does anyone have a parts car that can help me out? I'm posting this in the New Gen and Marketplace because it seems appropriate. Thanks. Keith
November 22, 200520 yr I don't think you can replace just the mirror. Just look for someone parting out a first gen legacy, and have them send ya the whole mirror part. Blackbart (Frank) has a lot of parts and may be able to help you.
November 23, 200520 yr Is it the folding or non-folding mount? I can send you a complete one for $25 + shipping. Lmdew@hotmail.com
November 23, 200520 yr if the housing is still usable your local automotive glass dealer can cut you a new mirror and glue it in for about 8-10 dollars.
November 23, 200520 yr If it's a power mirror, the mirror portion should snap right off of the bit that moves.
November 24, 200520 yr spideyz, Tunered had the best answer. Make a template of the mirror's shape (the actual glass) out of paper and a glass shop can cut you a new one for a few bucks. You then use clear silicone to glue the new morror over the old one, tape it in place overnight, and then remove the tape. Problem solved. I've used this method on several customer's cars with complete success, and few bucks.
November 24, 200520 yr We replace about A LOT of these every week. If the mirror backing plate is ok, (black plate that the mirror mounts into), I can hook you up with a replacement Redi-Cut mirror for $12.00 shipped to you. These mirrors are cut by Burco and are vehicle/mirror specific. If the backing plate is damaged or missing, go with the used housing. http://www.burcoinc.com/Replacement_Mirrors/Sideview/index.htm The price includes shipping. You will not get a better price on them. Recently hooked up Dusty (USMB "Handtool") with 2 mirrors and 2 heating pads for his project of changing over his standard mirrors to heated mirrors. Shoot him a PM to check out the quality of these mirrors. If interested, let me know. Would take less than a day to get from the warehouse and get shipped.
November 24, 200520 yr I've got a scratch in my driver's side mirror. If I were to replace it with a redi-cut mirror, does the plastic housing need to be removed, or can you remove the mirror itself without removing the plastic housing or guts?
November 24, 200520 yr you will have to get the old glass off the housing and i dought if you can do it with out breaking[dosent matter ] if you have to bust it off, clean off old glue and install new one.if glue dosent come with new one clear silicon works .
November 25, 200520 yr yup, just break it and work the pieces out. Center punch works great. The redi cuts now come with double sided pads for installation. Urethane or silicone can be used as well.
