  1. 05 Legacy 2.5 GT Wagon When adjusting the temperature for the A/C / Heat, the Driver and Passenger sides always operate completely separately. Every time I want to adjust, I have to adjust both sides individually which is a real PITA. On my 4Runner and any other car I have been in, the drivers side will operate both until the passenger is operated separately. Is there a way to tie them together or is there something I am missing. Thanks!
  2. Sorry! I didn't get your message till now. I travel extensively for work as I now do training in the Auto Glass industry nationwide. If you are still unsure of your issue, please send me a message and I'd be happy to see if I can help. I will be in town for several days beginning next Sunday, July 25th. We can take a look at it to see if we can figure it out.

Sorry about the delay and shoot me a message either way.

  3. You guys are great! I didn't have the lights on. Those DRL's are as you said, just as bright as the headlights. This is my 6th Sube, but my first with DRL's. Traded in my 95 Legacy about 2 months ago on this 05, so I am still learning this newer vehicle. I went thru the parking light switch game years ago as most have, so I ruled that out early. Thanks again for taking the time to help!!
  4. Just got home from a friends house. Upon leaving, I turned on the high beams but nothing happened???? No High Beams?? If I pull on the switch, they DO turn on, but not when I engage them forward to stay on. I also noticed that my dash gauge lights were on High like the bright switch is on. (whatever that button is called that turn the dash lights on bright?) When I hit that switch to turn them off, nothing happens??? I did polish and wax the exterior today and a quick wipe down of the interior, but nothing major. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking switch and if so, major deal? I Will be working in Capitol Heights, MD outside of DC and staying in College Park all week. Anyone recommend a RELIABLE mechanic in this area if repairs are over my head? Many thanks in advance! P.S. My search of the forums came up with 1 person last year having the same issue, but no resolution was posted.
  5. Its an Edgeguard. http://www.edgeguard.com/What-is-EG.htm They are installed professionally. I am surprised your looks like it does. Someone must have been picking at it..??
  6. I work in the auto glass biz and we replace wipers using bosch. They are just OK.... RainX, in my opinion, are the absolute worst wipers available. They are strictly a 'novelty' wiper!! Believe it or not, we replace probably around 20-30 windshields a year because of the poor quality mounts they use. People come in and they have a rainX wiper that fell off in the rain and scratches the hell out of the glass. This happens A LOT! Not to mention we get reports from customers they are only lasting a month or 2. For me, I actually run Valeo Ultimate wipers from TireRack.com. These are the Euro style blades. These were originally OEM from VW, Mercedes and BMW, but have now expanded into most makes/models. Have them on my 95 Legacy and 4Runner now for close to a year and are still running fine. TireRack has this style (hook-lock) as buy one get one free. 2 blades for $19.99! Can't beat it!
  7. They are entry level tires from Kelly-Springfield which is owned by Goodyear. Have been some issues with these tires in the past. Much better choices in tires out there! Watch for sales and you can get a good deal on a good set of tires. For me, when it comes to brakes and tires, I don't hesitate to spend the money.
  8. Agreed. Bought an 88 Wagon from Lawrence Subaru in Hanover in the early 90's and had very good experiences with them. Also bought one from one of their head mechanics who buys their high mileage trade-ins, fixes them up and then has a used Sube lot at his home that his wife runs.
  9. That dealership has continued to travel down hill over the past several years. Apple over here in York is not much better. Did you ever talk to the Sube guy up on 441 near Marietta? Never stopped in but at least one person on the forum I know has spoken well of them. If you get nowhere with them, I certainly would not give them my money. I would find a trusty independent to give my money to.
  10. It is simply the windshield molding. The clips should be able to be obtained from any auto glass company. If you have trouble locating them, let me know and I can ship you some for the cost of shipping. The molding should be able to be obtained from a dealer or a junk yard. To remove it, just simply pry straight up and the clips will slide off the pins on the body. The top tucks under the roof rack and just slides forward to remove. (you might need to remove roof rack to get the new molding back in since the clip is tricky to get back in) The problem you might run into is this. The clips on the imprezza (& forester too) are designed to be clipped onto the molding and then slid down onto the pins on the A pillar to hold them on. The clips then have a small lip that catches under the edge of the windshield when pushed in. This normally needs to be done just after the windshield is installed. It is possible that if you try to do it now, the urethane that is cured might obstruct them laying down properly. No way to tell until you try. I would recommend you support the clips with a SMALL dab of urethane when installing to avoid it coming back out.
  11. Hey VT, small world! I am originally from Honesdale. I often get up your way to visit my family. Who did the install? Mesko? Diamond?
  12. SFC (StretchForm Corp) makes a good aftermarket sunroof. I have installed hundreds of them until we stopped installing them about 5 years ago. SFC is now owned by CR Laurence which is the largest supplier of auto glass and glazier supplies and tools. Would recommend them, but just a word of advice. Atleast once a year, treat the seals to keep them pliable and at the same time, check all fittings to make sure nothing is coming loose. Had a couple break after the fittings for the handle came loose from the glass.
  13. What you see above the visor is called a "3rd Visor". The "dots" you see is a ceramic that is screened on the glass, just like silk screening a t-shirt. Same material you see around the perimeter of the glass and it is there to protect the urethane adhesive from UV breakdown. The 3rd visor just acts as a sun block between the 2 fold down visors and the dots are just to break up the appearance to not have a big black blob on the glass. Many think it is some kind of antenna or something but is nothing more than I just explained. Your ez pass will work fine if you mount it there. I mount them for customers at that location almost every day.
  14. Brian, only mechanic I can recommend over your way is Dutch Valley auto works. Scott is the one to ask for in the service dept. He used to own RME auto care on Columbia Ave until Dutch Valley built a new building and bought scotts business to add it to the body shop. Good, honest guy. He worked on my 95 Legacy for about 5 years before I got transferred back across the river to York. http://www.dutchvalleyauto.com/ What part of Lancaster? I visit a friend every weekend who lives in Manheim near the auction. Will actually be out to dinner tomorrow night at Ichiban restaurant at 30 and Fruitville pike. 10 miles north sounds like Lititz area maybe?
  15. I fix "do it yourself" installations regularly. Over 90% of the jobs by persons not trained in proper procedures are in grave danger if they are ever in an accident. This is not something you want to do yourself unless you have someone who has some clue as to what they are doing. What most find out is that by the time they spend the $ on the used windshield, tools, adhesives, primers for glass and body, etc., etc., they could have paid a pro to put it in properly for just a little more money. Keep in mind that this is assuming you do not damage the car during removal or installation, break the glass or the likelihood you will have to pay someone later if you screw up. (if we have to re-do a DIY job, that is an immediate $75.00 additional cost on top of the regular costs) At least make a few phone calls to several different glass companies in your area and get some pricing. I am quite sure it will be worth your time to check on it before you dive into it yourself. If you do end up doing it yourself, PLEASE, do some reading on the internet for some instructions on doing a safe and proper job. It really is important to get this information from a reputable source, not someone who did it one time!!!
  16. Thanks Nipper! Think I should just wait the 30K for the next timing belt change or am I already getting into the life expectancy of the pump? Thanks again!
  17. Funny this comes up. I am not due for another timing belt for well over another 30K. I have an appointment next thursday for inspection, oil change, etc. I briefly spoke with my mechanic about just replacing the water pump at this point as I am getting a bad feeling its day might be coming since I am around 150K on the original pump. Any thoughts? I DO NOT want to be left sitting because of something failing!!!!!!! I would much rather just pay for the fix and be done with it, but.. no sense throwing money out the window because of my paranoia. Well, good news is my mechanic left the garage he was working for and just bought an existing business that includes the service garage, speed shop and used car lot. SUPER honest guy. When I first met him about 14 years ago, he was in his 13th year as shop foreman at a Subaru used car business. Will get his opinion but in the meatime, any thoughts from you guys? P.S. If it does get replaced, he normally recommends using OEM, which I am OK with.
  18. If it is heated/power, you might need to take the door panel off to get to the wiring harness. Start by pulling off the triangular trim panel and see what you have. Might be able to get at the nuts and wiring harness without removing door panel. Most mirrors are held on with 3 10mm nuts. Very straight forward and easy to do.
  19. Ditto on the Rain-X wipers. JUNK!!! We have replaced several windshields over just the last couple of months from the mounts failing which releases the blade and scratches the hell out of the windshield. Not to mention the complaints we hear about the constant streaking just to find out they recently installed these wipers. MUCH better choices out there! We switched from Trico Exact-Fit to Bosch (re-labeled for PRP) for retail and the Bosch seem to be a descent 6 month wiper. Currently working to obtain wholesale pricing on Valeo 900 Ultimate wipers as an alternative or OEM replacement. Personally have these on my 95 Sube and 05 4runner and I would say of all we have tested over the years, nothing comes close. Downfall is pricing with the exception of the current special at Tirerack.com. VERY good deal on them.
  20. Here is some more advice from someone doing autoglass for 14 years now. Pay someone who knows what they are doing. As simple as you might think it is, a screw up can mean you or a passenger might not be alive after an accident. In addition to the glass and adhesives, you must have the proper primers for the body and the glass and they have to be applied PROPERLY. Otherwise, your windshield will not be bonded or at the very least, leaking like crazy. If you account for the time and money doing it yourself, you will find that most of the time it will only be a little more to have it professionally installed. I fix these screwups on a regular basis from people "trying" to save money doing it themselves with no experience, only to cost them more in the end.
  21. Been there... Done That... Never again!!! Had so many problems with those tires after only about 6 months. Talked to the Good Year store where I bought them and as you would expect, my car was the problem. Currently have Michelin Harmony (replaced the Michelin X-One). WOW. Day and night. About 1 1/2 years now and still excellent.
  22. Hogweed, where in central PA are you? If you are near York, I would be happy to check it out. I deal with this many times a week at work.
  23. If it does have the heated windshield installed, your best bet is going to be to remove the interior A pillar trim on the drivers side. The "A" pillar is the post on each side of the windshield that goes up to the roof. Once you get in to the plug, check the voltage. If you have proper voltage, the connection might be off the glass or their may be a defect in the grid. Just for note, the glass will not become "hot" when it is running. What I would recommend you do first, just to be sure, is to lift your wipers up out of the way, turn the windshield heater on and wait 1 minute then blow on the glass to create a fog on the glass and see how quickly it goes away. If the glass is not cool, put the vehicle in the shade to cool down and then spray it with cold water and dry it. Then try to fog it. Blow on it before and after turning the heater on to see a difference. If it is working, it should dissipate rapidly.
