Stuck in 4x4

Featured Replies

I have a 89 DL wagon yesterday I had to lock into 4x4 (5sp w/push button ) and now it won't come out of 4x4 what do I look for or do Thanks.

try jacking the back of the car up, then press the button.jacking it up will relieve any pressure thats on the wheels.

When my DL didn't want to come out, i'd push the button, roll forward in neutral about 20 feet, and the go in reverse and coast that way another 20 feet, it helps if you are on a slippery surface.

Now is a good time to check to make sure that your tires are the same size front and rear, when i got my car it had 175's on the front and 185's on the rear.

like he said...try neutral, drifting a little, reverse, forward.

if all else fails i believe there's a lever on the passengers side of the transmission that you can pull manually to get it unlocked. i've had to remove a bracket that the cable runs through just prior to the trans though....it's like two 10mm bolts, the bracket comes off and then you can push/pull the locking lever by hand. this is on XTT FT4WD and XT6 AWD vehicles, and my push button PT4WD transmission looks the same, so i'm assuming it's similar.
