November 29, 200520 yr i have to do my turbos head gaskets and have a carbed block(not here yet) and was gonna swap for a bit of extra compression, is there a spot for the knock sensor and the crankcase vent hose right beside it? thanks
November 29, 200520 yr Knock sensor, yes, vent hole no. The spot that it goes in is there, it just doesn't go all the way to the crank. You could drill and put your own vent there, but the shavings would go into the crankcase.
November 29, 200520 yr You also might need to tap the hole for the sensor. Shouldn't have to. Mine didn't require tapping.
November 29, 200520 yr Just hook the PCV into one of the rocker covers. An oil separator might be necessary to avoid excess oil burning, but it should work fine.
November 30, 200520 yr Since headgaskets are the weakest point (one hopes) , what would the best ones be?
November 30, 200520 yr I'd go with OEM gaskets. WJM ran his 9.5:1 turbo engine for 20k miles with no HG problems. Aftermarket HG's are generally junk, though Fel-Pro comes close to OEM from what I've seen and heard. Copper ones are another possibility, but I know those have had teething problems in the EA82T.
November 30, 200520 yr Mark, come for a ride in the Legacy. It's got me thinking about ditching the spfi swap for an ej22t! Sure once you crank the boost those tiny little axles/cv's are going to snap, but that's what lifetime warranties are for right
