Can anyone help me decide wheather a Flush by a transmission shop will do a better job of helping my 96 impreza(auto)with torque bind than having a fluid drain with new filter and some extra efforts by my mechanic to remove more fluid by a few starts to spin more fluid out from the transmission before refilling?Of course the tranny shop and the mechanic have different opinions but in the context of trying to help with torque bind which process seems to be the better route? i did it on my 97 OBW 2 months ago with 180K and it fixed it on mine. There really is no filter to change. Subaru consideres it a non servicable item, but you can change it if you want to go through the hassel.

DO a real flush .. total done by machine, not a few qts at a time. Then drive the car in 6 circles to loosen up the packs and its all good

the 99.00 tranny flush sure beats the 1000.00 clutchpack repair

 

also do a search on torque bind

a flush is the only way to get all the fluid out and replace with new. our machine hooks up inline of the factory cooler, the trans forces the fluid into the machine and the machine pumps out the same amount of new atf into the cooler. you watch the fluid color through a glass beaker and you can easily telll old from new.

 

 

for a 100 bucks its worth it I know ammaco around the nj area offers 100.00 for the life of the car. I would suggest atleast once a year.

Transmission flush sounds like you best choice to me.

Sucess! I had the transmission flush done on my daughters 96 Imprezza's auto tranny. It had the classic torque bind issues and I had it done with some hope but not absoulute confidence. It worked immeadiatly as soon as I drove away before even turning the circles to flush out the gunk. Thanks to all the posts on both the torque bind issues as well as the flush vs drain thread. Also I'd like to put in a good word for the shop here in Altoona Pa. that did the work. Automatic Transmission Specialists- ATS- They were involved with a few Subarus that were experiancing torque bind and were helpful and willing to use the knowledge I picked up here on our forum.
