December 10, 200520 yr Can anyone tell me what the normal range for oil pressure for a 91 ea82? I'm only getting 10 to 14 psi at idle. It increases to 40 at 3000 rpm. Thanks.
December 10, 200520 yr That should be fine, as long as it doesn't drop below 10psi it'll be fine. Is this a factory gauge were talking about? They are notoriously inaccurate.
December 10, 200520 yr As Ross says totaly normal try some heavier wt oil come spring 20w 50 Castrol GTX is what all my L-series (EA 82) love
December 10, 200520 yr 20w 50 Castrol GTX Umm, It might be different in america, but. After running Castrol GTX2 for a year in my brothers 626 it filled the rocker area up with this horrid gunk. Black sticky slime. Took us over an hour to clean it up. And after wards the car seem to have another 15 houses! Later we heard from a mechanic that he Casrtrol GTX oils do that... I dunno if it just picked up all the old gunk in the engine and deposited it in the rockers or if it turned into that horrible stuff. By bro always uses Valvoline now.
December 10, 200520 yr Most likely the oil is completely different in the US - i'd say ours is made in Austrailia. I doubt it was the oil that caused it - probably some unrelated problem - like the fact that it was a 626!! Some oils do resist contamination more than others though.
December 10, 200520 yr mines at 0 and holding for the last 3k miles, it gets up to 2 psi if i rev the engine when its cold!!!!!lol
December 10, 200520 yr You don't need to worry about it. Your oil pressure is in the normal range for these engines. Most of your running is going to be in the 2500-3500 rpm range, anyway.
