Good news is there appears to be no damge to the head.

generation 1 turbo head - plain "EA82" on the bottom

generation 2 turbo head - "EA82" with a line under it

generation 3 turbo head - "EA82" with a box around it

Hopefully this will help in future referance for people since you already know the answer

The same applies to nonturbo heads too doesn't it? My 88 XT nonturbo has the line under EA82.

Wiping the dust off this thread cuz I don't wanna make a new one. Aside from the identification markings, what is actually the real differences between the phases, the casting process and/or head design?

The exhaust ports have a bit more metal in them as the most common issue is the coolant jacket to crack into the exhaust port.
