December 26, 200520 yr the thing with the all wheel drive is not just related to the center diff. or the limited slip. it has to do with one tire spinning faster or slower then the other three and the computer on the car trying to speed up or slow down the other tires to compensate the bad one this constant difference is what will burn up your drivetrain. the bigger the difference the sooner you will have problems, which there is no said timeline as to when the problems start occuring either or to what particular part. this all has to do with the wheel speed sensors at each corner of the car and what it tells the computer what is going on and this is not just for subarus, this is the case for all all wheel drives.

If we're talking about the manual tranny, the ECU is outta the picture. But ,yeah, the auto senses wheel slip and then starts to allow the clutch pack to engage more, transfering the power to the rear axle.
