95 legacy boot torn

Featured Replies

i have a 95 legacy awd 5 spd i notice that the right front boot had torn and their was grease allover the inside of the wheel both front axle are new rebuild axles. the right front is a damn auto zone axle can i get a new boot for it or do i have to wait intill the axle start clicking real bad then replace it. i like to use car quest parts instead

They both may use the same rebuilder. Are you absoloutly sure the proper axle is on the car. That seems to be the #1 cause of premature boot failure. Do you have any idea how long the boots been torn? if dirt has gotten into the joint, you may be better off chaning the axle on your schedual then on the cars schedual

yes its the right axle i not stupid it about 8 monthes old

is this axle still under warranty? if it is i would drive it to autozone and say look here,if its not?

You can buy a boot kit from napa(I prefer the blue ones) and completely dissassemble it and clean it. If you shift it to one side the large ball bearings will come out and you can clean it very thoroughly.

i never said you were stupid. Unless you personally work behind the counter of the autopart store, know the part number by heart, and can swear the right part got in the right box at the rebuilder, then it is sure as hell possible you got the wrong part.

This has happened to me more then once for parts, including axles. My mechanic had the same issue with a parts house and changed suppliers.

So i repeat, it is possible you got the wrong part. Earlier subarus were notorious for this, and im not sure if the newer ones have the same possabilty.

So dont put words in my mouth and assume i was calling you stupid.

Unfortunately the wrong part is all too common. I try to carefully compare parts before installation but I have still been fooled.

I bolted up a set of drums that looked fine on my Forester. When I tightend the wheels the drums locked up. It turned out the groove for the backing plate was about a sixteenth of an inch off.

I have a 95 subaru legacy L and I have had the boots replaced. I found it is less expensive just to replace the whole axle how ever it is possible to have the boots replaced. I just had the driver's axle replaced because it was easier for my son to just replace the whole axle. It takes less time also. Good luck.
