P K
Hello All, Happy New year, I didn't find total clarification during my search, so if I am stupid, point me to the info. I know the 5 speed with 1.59:1 ratio low range is part-time 4wd. When I see some RXs, they have "Full Time AWD" stickers etc. Is this for only the single range transmissions? I know they have the dual-range transmissions too. I want to know the following: Is the RX 5 speed with the 1.2:1 low range part-time or full-time AWD? And, if it's full-time, then shift-on-the-fly into low range? thank you, PK.
ThreeEyedBandit
Full time and Shift on the fly Low range, like the rest of the transmissions. Matt
fangster
Don't think all the RXs sold in the US were Full Time 4WD - earlier ones were Part Time 4WD
subiemech85
it's full time 4wd, with center diff lock, or part time 4wd and let's try to keep our numbers straight, 1.196 -- (20/22 x 25/19) 1.592 -- (23/14 x 25/19) can the 20/22 gear set be swapped for the 23/14 gear set to give the better low? ShawnW
Shift on the fly to me means no clutch pedal is depressed. The RX one you need to depress it to low range dont you?
fangster
can the 20/22 gear set be swapped for the 23/14 gear set to give the better low? Apparently it can - I am going to have someone swap the 1.592 gears out of a d/r part time box into a my d/r full time box.
WJM
You need to use the clutch to go from high to low. HOWEVER...the 'shift on the fly' saying means that you can do it while in motion. The typical 4WD systems on trucks that have Dual range require you to come to a complete stop before going to and from low range. Sometimes I even had to shut off the engine and have it in N before I could get my Dad's Ford in low.
