Fuel consumption question

Featured Replies

I've got a '91 Legacy Turbo and it seems my mileage is quite low.

For a full tank of gas, if I let it go right down past the "E" mark, I just get about 400-450kms (250miles).

I don't drive it (too) hard and generally keep it about 100km/h or 2500rpm on the highway. Most of my driving is in town, though when on a 3200km trip over Christmas, my mileage did improve somewhat.

Is this "normal" or to be expected for this age of car? I think it's got the 2.2l engine in it and power everything - and it all mostly still works! I love the car, but compared to my summer ride (Golf TDI) the fuel consumtion kills me!

well this is a bigger engine than you vw. oh and you need to post this in the new generation of subarus forum. anyway that is probally the answer.

Its a turbo, and as you said you're doing city, so that will make it lower. and it'll never get close to a nice small car running a diesel.

250 dosn't sound too bad, you might get the o2 sensor replaced, along with the wires, plugs and air and fuel filter; basic tuneup stuff should help.

Thanks for your feedback.

I'm new to the Subaru world, and just asumed that it being a '91 it was an "older" generation model! I'll also get some of the basic tune-up stuff done as well. I've only been doing oil changes so far...
