Does drive solenoid c failing cause torque bind?

Featured Replies

I was wondering, ive had torque bind and a dead drive solenoid for over 10,000KM. Do you think if i do a transmission flush it would fix the torque bind issue, because isn't the car giving power to all four wheels anyway?

No. If the solenoid is the cause of the torque bind, it is simply the failure of the solenoid to activate and minimise rear power distribution. If the problem is due to a worn clutch pack or residue buildup, maybe.

Eiterh you'll have to deal with the clutched wearing out now until it thne becomes FWD, remove part of the drive shaft, or replace the solenoid (i.e. lower transmisison, remove rear housing extension, and replace solenoid and or clutches).

If you mean a dead duty c solenoid, you basically are going to or have fried the AWD clutch drive and possibly the case that holds it together. The duty c solenoid has to be energized to shut off the AWD. Whats going to happen is not going to be pretty inside the tail end of the tranny.

Why do you think the Duty C Solenoid is dead?

I have a 90 4wd legacy wagon thjat has no rear drive. Do you think it is the same thing, the rear clutch pack is blown , I doubt the solenoid is energized all the time.

If you have a dead duty solenoid, the computer will pick it up and flash a code.

Assuming you have an automatic:

Blown clutchpack will give the reverse, as you would have severe and constant torque bind.

You may have a worn duty c valve seat allowing pressure to bypass the solenoid. Another possability is a bad speed sensor (there are two of them). If the second one is freid, or the one in the spedo head is dead, then you wont have AWD.
