January 31, 200620 yr HELLO ALL, let me say what a great site this is!! . I was lucky to find a 91 loyal wagon with 51000 km that has been stored in a garage since 1995. thought stories like this only happened in urban legends. i bought it. after putting in a new fuel tank,(bit of rust), filter etc. it's running great. The 3-spd. auto winds up the rpm near 4k at 110 km/hr. I've heard that the 1.8 is ok with this but it gives me the willys. I needed new tires anyway so put on 185's (a bit taller)thinking it might help? for now ,, still running great ,Ian.
January 31, 200620 yr Welcome, 51k, thats like 30 thousand miles? she's a baby, you had better treat her right, they don't become adults until they hit 200k. If you have any problems or want to upgrade we'll be here with all the answers, well most of them anyway.
January 31, 200620 yr Welcome to the insanity!! 51,000 km = 31,670 mi = a MAJOR score! (even with the auto tranny) Yes the 1.8 can handle the rpms, but if it really bothers you it can be converted over to a 5 spd manual which would lower the rpms quite a bit. Take good care of your fantastic find and it will last a lifetime.
